Dreaming of Winter

Here I am in winter. I am waiting for it to come again because I'm tired of yard work! I believe the irrigation water goes out this weekend though, that means we don't have to water the yard anymore this year but it always seems to get dry before the weather sets in.
Steve's garden needs water until frost or else he can't get anymore tomatoes which the deer love to eat, so we will water it with the house well.
Until then, I will keep thinking snow!

Well, this is about as deep as it gets here. Once in a while we will have a HUGE storm and it'll leave 6 to 8 inches on the ground. Yeah, I just found it or it would have been great to put it on my blog in July or August, wouldn't it?

When we were talking about the seasons over at ccheryl's not too long ago, this was the kind of winter wonderland I was referring to that I absolutely love. But the downside (besides 40-below-zero temperatures plus windchill factor) here in Ottawa is that we usually get so much snow, there's nowhere left to pile it up when you're shoveling!

I agree with honora...snow bad... summer good....Seeing this, I am immediately reminded that St. Francis never wore anything to cover his feet, even in the snow and ice...I wonder if he had to give the early brothers and sisters a "reenlisment bonus" when the first snow fell.... lol

Ok, maybe some of it has to do with my age, but winter is a blissful time of year for me. Cozy fires in our stove and the warmth of those soft blankets. I also like to take drives in the winter when there is frost on the weeds and trees. Once, we took a drive out west of our home and found ourselves on a little road I'd never been on before. The frost had covered all the trees and weeds and with the light of the vehicle, it seemed like we were in another world. Perhaps Narnia?

You are walking in a winter wonderland. How beautiful!!
About tomatoes, I just wondered if you know you can pick them green, and bring them in the house and set them in a sunny window and they will ripen.
I have done that for years. Sometimes I have hundreds of them ripening. Just be sure to pick them before it gets too cold. You don't want them to freeze.

I love winter too DD. But I don't like driving or in general having to go out in the snow. I like it when it is post-card pretty, pristine. Not when it's slushy and icy! So your picture is fabulous and is exactly the kind of snow I like. Brother Lesser, it doesn't snow often in Italy, but when it does, it usually snows a lot in Umbria, St. Francis' region. And it gets COLD, and when stone walls get cold, they stay cold for a long time. Heating expenses are incredible here, and it's especially cold in church, as most of these buildings do not have heating. It's a true sacrifice to go to Mass in winter time!

Mountain Mama,
Yes, we have been doing the same thing each fall. It's getting pretty cool so in the next few days I'll be picking them and sitting them out to ripen. I love fried green tomatoes too!

FMN, I think they'd have a hard time getting me too far from the fire if I were living in stone walls and barefoot. Yes, I admit it...I'm a creature of warmth but not necessarily summer heat!
